Amenes, der tyrannische Pharao Ägyptens, verschmäht die Tochter des Königs Äthiopiens und macht stattdessen ihre Sklavin Theonis zu seinem Weib.
Daraufhin erklärt Äthiopien Ägypten den Krieg. Bevor er in den Kampf zieht, lässt Amenes Theonis einmauern, da sie geschworen hat, nur ihrem Geliebten Ramphis treu zu sein.
Amenes' Heer wird geschlagen, aber schließlich führt Ramphis die Ägypter siegreich gegen die Äthiopier; darauf wird er an der Seite von Theonis Ägyptens neuer Pharao. Als der totgeglaubte Amenes zurückkehrt, macht Ramphis ihm ein Angebot: er bekommt den Thron zurück, wenn er dafür auf Theonis verzichtet.
Diese digital restaurierte Fassung stellt den Film in viragierten Farben dar, die den überlieferten Filmmaterialien entsprechen. Erstmals ist auf dieser DVD die gesamte Musik des Originals als Orchesterfassung zu hören.

Amenes, the tyrannical Pharaoh of Egypt, rejects the daughter of the Ethiopian King Samlak in favor of the Greek slave-girl Theonis, whom he crowns as his queen.
Raging from this insult, Samlak takes his army to war against Egypt. Before going to battle, Amenes orders that Theonis be locked wihtin the walls of the treasure house because she denies him and confesses her love to the young Ramphis.
Amenes' troops are defeated; Ramphis rescues Theonis and leads Egypt to victory against the Ethiopians. At Theonis' side Ramphis becomes the new Pharaoh. Although presumed dead in battle, Amenes returns. Ramphis offers to relinquish the throne, if Amenes is willing to release Theonis.
This digital restoration recreates the original color tinting scheme in accordance to the only surviving projection print fragments. This release makes the original orechestral score available for the first time ever on recorded media.
